- James,
-
- First of all, let me assure you that I'm in this business to make myself some
- money, not to help you or any other developer compete with me. But, I don't
- think your attitude regarding *mine* or others willingness to contribute to a
- MacApp-oriented code library is totally warranted.
-
- One annoying problem I see with MACAPP.TECH$ right now is that I have to wade
- through links that contain questions that have been answered multiple times in
- the past. This is a waste of my time. I would rather see "new" questions and
- ideas on MacApp.Tech$. I think it would be great to have an area on AppleLink
- that contained code fragments, small classes, work-arounds, and such. It would
- be even greater if there were searching capabilities available. MACAPP.TECH$
- archives are not of great value to someone looking for a possible solution to a
- specific problem due to the amount of irrelevant information that must be read
- and discarded.
-
- I think it would be safe to note that you post more than the average
- MACAPP.TECH$ member. I also think it would be safe to say that the vast
- majority of your postings are questions and NOT useful contributions. By doing
- this aren't you assuming "that people will nobly sacrifice their own good for
- the benefit of" you? (your quote)
-
- I don't think "copyrights, patents and other legal hassles surrounding
- intellectual property" have a thing to do with the current state of software on
- the market today. In fact, I view those things, in many cases, to be
- hindrances to advancement. (Please don't start a thread on MACAPP.TECH$
- regarding protection of intellectual property!!)
-
- James, don't contribute proprietary code or ideas, but do contribute those
- things that others in this forum gave you a helping hand getting up and
- running. I doubt you'll lose any money and very little time, by taking a
- moment to copy and paste some source code into one of your links every once in
- awhile.
-
- I say let's give it a shot. If if fails miserably, it fails. If it works,
- then we have yet one more source to turn to in our quest for better and faster
- ways to get our work done.
